Synopsis
Macbeth and his ally Banquo encounter three witches, who predict Macbeth will one day become Thane (nobleman) of Cawdor and eventually King of Scotland. Upon arriving home, Macbeth finds that he has suddenly received the predicted title. Consumed by political ambition and goaded into action by his ruthless wife, Macbeth decides to hurry matters along and murders good King Duncan. Soon the Scottish throne is his. He is overcome with guilt, fear, and distrust but continues his reign of terror, murdering many who oppose him. Following an epic confrontation, in which Macduff is revealed incredibly as “not of woman born,” the Scottish throne returns to its rightful heir, the murdered King’s son, Malcolm.
